Measure how often competitors get named in AI answers versus you

Share of voice used to mean search rank and ad spend. In AI search it means how often each brand actually gets named across the questions buyers ask. PuffinScout measures that, brand by brand.

Share of voice, redefined for an answer instead of a results page

On a results page, share of voice is roughly how much space you occupy compared to competitors: rankings, ad slots, featured snippets. An AI answer has no space to occupy in that sense; it either names a brand in the sentence it writes or it does not. Share of voice here means the share of your tracked questions where each brand gets named at all, counted the same way for every competitor in the set.

What the comparison actually shows

For every tracked question, PuffinScout records every brand the answer names, not only yours, so the comparison is never you against an assumption. The result is a real count: how many of your questions name you, how many name each competitor, and which questions name neither, which is often the most useful row on the board because it points at genuinely open ground.

Reading the gap honestly

A wide gap between you and a competitor is a finding, not a verdict: it says an assistant, on the check we ran, named the other brand and not yours, for a specific set of questions. It does not say why, and PuffinScout does not claim to know why beyond what the cited sources show. The source list attached to each question is the evidence; closing the gap starts with reading it.

Common questions

What counts as share of voice here?

How often each brand is named in the AI answers to the buyer questions you track, brand by brand. Not ad spend and not a search rank, just who the answer names and how often.

How do you decide which competitors to compare?

You choose them, and you can add or change them any time. We measure the same questions for every brand, so the comparison is like for like.

Does a bigger share mean I will win the sale?

No. Being named more often puts you in front of more buyers; it does not mean AI ranked you first or closed the deal. We report what the answers say and promise no outcome.

How current is the comparison?

It moves with the answers. We re-read your questions on a schedule, so a rival gaining or losing ground shows up on your next check rather than months later.
